Oh dear! My grandmother voted for the Communists!
I remember my grandmother Kathleen Cavenagh (Cudmore) Symes (1908-2013) once telling me that she had voted for the Communists. The recent election here in Australia prompted me to do a little more research.
I have written about the election in 1955 where there were only two candidates in her electorate, one from the centre-left Australian Labor Party and the other from the Communist Party. Rather than vote Labor or register an informal vote she chose to support the Communist candidate.
